Wild Rice began as a simple thought from Andrew Wong. His wish was to create a socially conscious restaurant serving local cuisine with influences from his Chinese heritage. We are proud members of Ocean Wise and Green Table.

The restaurant and hospitality industry is an integral part of Andrew Wong's heritage. His grandfather, Wong Wam-Fung, was the owner of the lotus hotel and his father, Ernie Wong, was a server for 25 years at the Bayshore's legendary Trader Vic's. Andrew got an early start on his restaurant career - at 13, he was cooking fast food. At 14, he landed a job as manager of a neighbourhood cafe called Cucamongas. When Cucamongas eventually turned into the Cactus Club, Andrew stayed on for a few years working his way up to operations manager. Andrew departed from the Cactus Club to spend years working front of house for Bud Kanke at the Cannery, and the Fish House. The experience provided him with wine knowledge and the funds to open his first restaurant venture with a partner - the Brickhouse. For as long as he can remember, Andrew had dreamed of creating a modern chinese bistro. The sale of his share in the Brickhouse allowed him to pursue that dream and wild rice was born - ironically, next door to the Lotus Hotel founded by his grandfather.
